Austin's grandest room opened in 1886 and has been photographed roughly every day since. Twelve years of filming weddings there taught us where the light falls and when to sneak away.
Morning: the suites
The historic suites face 6th and Brazos, and the tall windows throw beautiful side light until about 11am. Get ready in one with the curtains fully open. The stained glass transoms glow amber when the sun crosses, and that's the shot.
The staircase
The grand staircase under the stained-glass dome is the most requested shot in the building, and it earns it. We take couples there twice, once in daylight for the glow and once at night when the lobby empties out and the marble goes warm under the lamps. Ten minutes each visit is enough.
Night: the ballroom and the bar
The ballroom's chandeliers photograph warmer than they read in person, which is a gift. We expose for them and let the corners fall into shadow. Later, steal fifteen minutes in the bar: leather, dark wood, and the kind of lamplight that makes everyone look like an old photograph.
The send-off
The arched stone entrance on Brazos is made for a flash photo: sparklers, the 1886 stonework behind you, and downtown humming past. We shoot it with direct flash, 90s point-and-shoot style, and it's reliably the frame couples print.
